Explore Chernobyl virtually as the world marks the anniversary of the disaster

If ever there was a tour to take you into the heart of darkness – and through it into the light – the Dogs of Chernobyl Virtual Tour is surely it. It allows you not only to meet the dogs who call the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone home, but to experience the site of the world’s worst nuclear disaster, that occurred 34 years ago, on Saturday 26 April 1986.

Many family pets were left behind in the aftermath of the disaster, and today there are currently around 600 dogs that still live in the Exclusion

What it feels like... to survive a monkey attack

Three monkeys attacked me and put me in emergency care

As we approached Monkey Beach during our Thailand holiday in 2016, I felt excitement at the idea of spending some time with wild macaques.

With our guide’s warning not to feed the monkeys ringing in my ears, we rowed up to the shore.

But I didn’t even get to step foot on the beach before monkeys lunged into our kayak, with one swiping at my eye, while two bit my hand and foot – break

Bullying Cuts & Fairytale of New York

You could be forgiven for thinking that the biggest story in the LGBTQ+ community over the Christmas period was the censoring of much-loved Christmas song ‘Fairytale of New York’ by the Pogues and Kirsty MacColl. However, if you listened carefully over the cries of “Snowflakes!” and people drunkenly belting out that line to the song, you might have heard the quiet (so quiet it's metaphorical) snip of some scissors.

Denson Automotive, which is based out of Thorp Arch Trading Estate in Wetherby, has achieved the seven-figure turnover in the 12 months since January 2020.

The funding will be used to help Denson increase its sales in the coming years.

Linden Kitson, Denson Automotive MD, said: “Securing the CBILS-backed loan from NPIF – BEF &

The investment will enable the company to expand its fleet of e-bikes and expand into another European city in 2022.

The London launch follows a trial in summer 2020 where 200 e-bikes were distributed to

North East family business delivers egg-ceptional results during lockdown

A North East family business has started its own food delivery service for local produce across the region during lockdown.

Northumbrian Free Range Eggs, which is based between Gateshead and Ingoe, Northumberland, supplied eggs to a number of high-end restaurants, cafes, and coffee shops throughout Tyne and Wear and Northumberland.

However when Coronavirus hit, husband and wife team Richard and Kerrie Patterson were forced to diversify their business to survive.

North East camper van business gears up for 2021 staycation boom

A Brunswick based camper van retailer has seen record profits following the easing of lockdown restrictions.

Mini Campers North East, which specialises in selling and converting compact camper vans, saw its profits up by more than 200 per cent than the 2019/20 financial year.

A survey by The Cumberland Building Society carried out in August 2020 revealed that 83 per cent of British holidaymakers would prefer to stay in the UK this year than travel abroad, with 71 per cent of people planning to

Carry on Camper: The North East company driving staycation growth

“Not many people can imagine their summer holidays when it’s hail stoning sideways.”

It’s hard to argue with Alex Banks, part owner of Mini Campers North East. However, on the back of their most successful summer since opening in 2012, the business isn’t having to worry too much about the much quieter (not to mention colder and wetter) winter period.

“Summer has been exceptional,” says Banks. “Not only was the website performing well, but we had a lot of concrete interest that we can’t always
